General questions

What is a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES) and why is it important?

A COES is a legal document issued by a licensed electrician that certifies the work they’ve completed complies with Australian safety standards. It’s a mandatory requirement for almost all electrical work, from a new power point to a full house rewire. You should always be provided with a copy of this certificate upon completion of the job, as it’s proof the work is safe and legal.

My power keeps tripping. What should I do?

A tripping circuit breaker is a common issue. It usually indicates an overload on the circuit or a fault with a connected appliance. You can try unplugging all appliances from the circuit and resetting the breaker. If the problem persists, it’s a sign that you need a licensed electrician to diagnose and fix the issue. Contact us.

Is it safe to do my own electrical work?

No. In Australia, it is illegal for unlicensed individuals to perform electrical work. Not only is it a serious safety hazard that could cause electric shock or fire, but it can also void your home insurance. Always hire a licensed professional for any electrical job, no matter how small.

How often should I have my electrical system inspected?

It’s recommended to have a full electrical safety inspection every 5 to 10 years, especially in older homes. Regular inspections can identify potential problems before they become serious safety risks. We provide free safety audits for your peace of mind, submit request for free audit. T&Cs apply; we provide these as often as once annually per household.

My smoke alarm is beeping. What does that mean?

A chirping or beeping smoke alarm usually means the battery is low and needs to be replaced. It is important to test your smoke alarms regularly (at least monthly) and replace them every 10 years as per Australian standards. This is also included in our safety audits. Request free audit today.
