Frequently asked questions

General Commercial FAQ

How much does a new power point or light switch installation cost?

The cost of installing a new power point or switch varies depending on whether it’s a new installation or a replacement, and the complexity of running new wiring. As well as the type of outlet, consider your changing tech needs and we can provide a quote.

What are the regulations for smoke alarms in Australian homes?

Across Australia, it’s a legal requirement to have working smoke alarms in your home. The specific regulations vary by state, but a general rule is that smoke alarms must be photoelectric, and in many cases, they must be interconnected so that when one alarm sounds, they all sound. For new homes or major renovations, alarms must be hard-wired to the mains power with a battery backup. We can ensure your smoke alarms are compliant with all local laws.

Is it safe to use a powerboard (extension lead) for all my appliances?

No. Powerboards are designed for temporary use. Overloading them with too many high-draw appliances (like heaters, microwaves, or kettles) can cause overheating, which is a major fire hazard. We can install new power points to reduce your reliance on powerboards.

Why is my safety switch tripping?

A safety switch, or RCD, is designed to trip and cut power in a fraction of a second when it detects an electrical fault. The most common cause is a faulty appliance, but it can also be due to damaged wiring or a water leak. We can test the circuit and find the source of the problem. Request a free safety audit today.

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Common signs your home may need rewiring include frequently tripping circuit breakers, flickering lights, a burning smell from power points, or old-style ceramic fuses. Rewiring is a major job but can significantly improve the safety and reliability of your home’s electrical system.

How do I choose the right electrician for my job?

When choosing an electrician, it’s crucial to check that they are licensed and insured. Always ask for a detailed, upfront quote and ask for references or check online reviews. A good electrician will also provide a warranty for their work (ours is 12-months) and an REC to prove registration with Energy Safe Victoria.
